Our Story

I have loved food from an early age. Even as a young mom in my 20’s, I noticed to some degree how our food choices were tied to mental health. I strove every day to bring happiness to my family with a healthy breakfast, wholesome snacks during the day, and a balanced evening meal. Did food alone make happy, healthy kids and a perfect marriage? Not even close! I attended culinary school, worked in restaurants, served as a personal chef, and had well-fed, healthy family and customers. But something was missing. I went to family therapy, read about trauma-informed mental wellness, and ultimately gravitated to a functional medicine graduate program that incorporated clinical nutrition. Hive Wellness strives to discover and make sense of ever-changing patterns in the chaos of your life. From a distance, what seems like a random ailment, health disturbance, or life-changing news about our future can often be tracked down by a holistic approach to our wellness starting with childhood, traumatic life events, which impact our approaches to food, exercise, and mindfulness. The beehive looks messy, but is intricately organized. We have to pause, spend time observing, and with self-compassion brave the journey of adapting to life’s changing circumstances.
